Accounting Supervisor Job Description

The Accounting Supervisor reports to the Controller and manages the Junior Staff Accountant. The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support for the daily, weekly, monthly and annual accounting operations. The role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and supports the broader objectives of the Finance Department.
Accounting Supervisor Essential Functions:
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Identifies and implements process improvements and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Leads the creation and maintenance of an accounting procedures manual to reduce key-position risk.
- Assists in preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyzes financial data and provides insights and recommendations to management.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
- Supports the budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Supports internal and external audits and responds to auditor inquiries.
- Trains, mentors, and evaluates accounting staff to promote professional growth and performance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to effectively lead others, including coaching, mentoring, training and counseling.
- Ability to engage, motivate,
- Working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in the use of computers, specifically with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong knowledge of, and ability to use, Excel.
- Ability to use ERP reporting systems.
- Ability to analyze data sets, identify discrepancies, and make corrections as necessary.
- Ability to perform work within timeframes, with a strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Strong English language aptitude, including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to understand the needs and responsibilities of others, and factor such into the timely communication of work issues to others that have a need to know.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team effort.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Self-starter. Organized.

Weekly Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
Accounting Supervisor Salary
- This is a salaried position that ranges from $65,000 – $75,000 based on a successful candidate’s level of experience.
Education/Experience (Preferred Minimum Qualifications)
- Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university AND at least five (5) years of experience working in an accounting environment.
